Malaka Sari Fire Survivors Receive Assistance

Fire survivors on Jalan Malaka IV, RT 07/08, Malaka Sari Urban Village, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta, received assistance from the East Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).

Head of Malaka Sari Urban Village, Sudarna said the fire occurred today at around 4.14 AM and there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident.

"Aid has been distributed directly to fire survivors at the scene of the incident," he said.

He detailed that the aid from the East Jakarta BPBD included two boxes of mineral water, six packs of biscuits, 10 boxes of ready-to-eat food, two family kit packages, five clothing packages, and two mattresses.

"We would like to thank you for the concern and quick response given to the residents," he added.

Head of East Jakarta PMI, Bambang Pangestu explained his party also distributed aid in the form of two basic food packages, two hygiene kit packages, two family kit packages, and two mats.

"We hope that the assistance we provide can help ease the burden on fire survivors," he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of Operational Section of East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency, Abdul Wahid stated the fire is thought to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit while the stall owner was still asleep.

"The fire was discovered around 4:14 AM. The owner noticed the flames were already quite large and immediately reported it to the firefighter," he stated.

According to him, the sub-agency seven firetrucks with 35 personnel to the scene.

"The fire extinguishing process was complete at 4:53 AM. The burned-out stall was occupied by a single family with 12 people," he admitted.
